Best Running Shoes for Parkrun
Running parkrun every Saturday? Here's what to wear — from PB chasers to those just enjoying the social run.

Parkrun is brilliant. Free, friendly, and every Saturday morning at hundreds of locations across the UK. Whether you're chasing a course record or just there for the coffee afterwards, the right shoe makes the 5km more enjoyable.
Know your parkrun terrain
Many parkruns include sections of grass, gravel, or mixed terrain. A trail shoe is rarely necessary but a road shoe with decent outsole grip is worth considering if your local course is soft underfoot.
If your parkrun is entirely on tarmac paths, any good road shoe works. If it's on mixed terrain or gets muddy in winter, look for a shoe with firmer rubber on the outsole.
PB chasers
For those targeting a new parkrun PB, the Adidas Adizero Boston 13 is the most sensible choice. It gives genuine performance gains without the guilt of wearing out a £250 carbon racer on wet grass every weekend.
The Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 is another strong option at a similar price point. Its nylon plate gives a propulsive feel and it handles light mixed terrain better than a pure road racing shoe.
Comfortable options for social runners
If parkrun is about the run and the post-run coffee rather than the time, any comfortable trainer works. The Brooks Ghost 16 handles easy to moderate paces brilliantly and is a reliable choice for runners who don't want to overthink footwear.
For runners prioritising joint comfort, the Hoka Clifton 10 provides outstanding cushioning that holds up well on parkrun distances. It's slightly slower than performance options but extremely comfortable.
